7/19 Zambrano update from Mesa
Carlos Zambrano faced three batters and struck out one in one inning for the Mesa Rookie League team Monday night. It was Zambrano’s last outing in Arizona. He was expected to join the Triple-A Iowa team this week in Des Moines and pitch either Wednesday or Thursday. Zambrano will stay with the Triple-A team over the weekend when it plays at Round Rock, and if he continues to make progress, could join the Cubs next week in either Houston or Colorado.
Zambrano entered Monday’s game in the second inning. The Mesa Cubs lost, 2-1, to the Royals.
