7/22 Minor matters
Jeff Samardzija gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits over five innings in Iowa’s 8-5 win over Oklahoma City and former Cubs pitcher Rich Harden on Wednesday. Samardzija, who will stay in the Iowa Cubs rotation for the rest of the season, struck out six and walked three. He’s now 7-1 with a 2.76 ERA. Bobby Scales and Micah Hoffpauir each homered, with Hoffpauir’s shot his third in three games. Matt Camp ahd three hits and Darwin Barney had two hits and three RBIs. Harden, now with the Rangers, was making a rehab start.
On Thursday, Carlos Zambrano was expected to pitch in relief for the Iowa Cubs.
Tennessee had Wednesday off.
Brooks Raley gave up one run on five hits over seven innings in Daytona’s 5-2 win over Charlotte. Raley struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Michael Brenly just keeps on hitting, extending his streak to 20 games. he’s batting .397. Smaily Borges had three hits and Kyler Burke and DJ LeMahieu each had two.
Hak-Ju Lee hit his first home run and fell a double short of the cycle in Peoria’s 10-0 win over Fort Wayne. Lee was 4-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in one. Nick Struck picked up the win, throwing six shutout innings and holding Fort Wayne to two hits while striking out six. Nelson Perez also homered, his fifth.
Austin Kirk threw five shutout innings in Boise’s 7-2 win over Tri-City. Alvaro Ramirez had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 19 games. Matt Szczur had three hits and now has hit in 13 straight.
