8/3 Good guys, good cause

Cubs catcher Geovany Soto and former Cubs pitcher Mike Bielecki conducted a baseball clinic Tuesday at Humboldt Park in Chicago. Soto is involved in the Pepsi Refresh Project and has been active in making youth baseball programs available to kids in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

* Cubs pitcher Randy Wells will host the first Red Dirt Fest Wednesday night to benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital. Wells was inspired by 6-year-old Carter Kettner, whom he met last year during a Make-A-Wish event at Wrigley Field. Kettner, who had brain cancer, died in May. For $30, fans will see some of Wells’ favorite bands, such as Stoney LaRue, Brandon Jenkins and Randy Rogers at Joe’s Bar in Chicago.
