8/8 Family matters
Lou Piniella was headed to Tampa, Fla., after Sunday’s game to be with his mother, who was hospitalized. Piniella had missed three games July 31-Aug. 2 to attend his uncle’s funeral in Tampa.
“I’ll be there for the time that’s needed,” Piniella said after Sunday’s loss to the Reds. “Hopefully, I can get her home quick and make some arrangements to make sure everything is good before I come back.”
Bench coach Alan Trammell will take over in Piniella’s absence.
