8/13 Minor matters

Iowa had a day off Thursday before beginning a four-game series at Fresno and Sacramento on Friday.

Chris Carpenter gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings in Tennessee’s 5-2 loss to Chattanooga. Brandon Guyer hit two home runs for the Smokies to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.

Trey McNutt gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits over three innings in Daytona’s 6-3 win over Tampa. Rebel Ridling hit his 12th homer. Michael Brenly had three hits and DJ LeMahieu extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Alex Maestri picked up the win in relief, pitching three innings.

Brett Wallach, acquired from the Dodgers in the Ted Lilly-Ryan Theriot-Blake DeWitt deal, threw six shutout innings in Peoria’s 2-0 loss to Beloit. Wallach struck out six and gave up two hits and two walks.

Alvaro Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 15 games with two hits in Boise’s 6-3 win over Tri-City. Matthew Loosen picked up the win, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Dallas Beeler gave up two runs on five hits over three innings in Mesa’s 12-inning, 7-6 win over the Rangers.

* Outfielder Evan Crawford, acquired from the Giants in the Mike Fontenot deal, was assigned to Class A Daytona.

I watched the Tenn.Smokies about 1 month ago. Mateo was not ready for the majors at that time. I doubt he was ready for Triple A ball. The game I watched him pitch 1 inning as I recall every strike he threw was a line drive. Check July 17 or 18 as I recall. I did love Guyer and a couple more outfielders. Josh Vitters looked great but i guess he’s amybe a couple years from Wrigley.
