8/27 Minor matters

Jeff Samardzija gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings in Iowa’s 7-6 win over Omaha on Thursday. Samardzija now is 11-2 with a 3.23 ERA. Jeff Stevens picked up the save, his sixth. Jason Dubois and Marquez Smith each homered for the Iowa Cubs. Dubois’ blast was a grand slam.

Chris Archer gave up two runs on five hits over seven innings in Tennessee’s 4-3, 11-inning win over Birmingham. Archer struck out nine and is 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA. Marco Carrillo picked up the win in relief, throwing three innings.

Daytona’s game vs. Clearwater was postponed because of rain.

Frank Batista threw six shutout innings in Peoria’s 1-0 win over Cedar Rapids. Logan Watkins and Jae-Hoon Ha each had two hits. Daniel Keefe earned the win in relief.

Richard Jones had three hits in Boise’s 6-3 loss to Tri City. Juan Yasser Serrano took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits over four innings.
