9/4 Castro's red hot numbers

Starlin Castro is batting .393 in his last 13 games with eight doubles and three RBIs. He now has 36 multi-hit games after collecting two on Saturday against the Mets, good for third most among NL rookies. It’s the most by a Cubs rookie since Kosuke Fukudome had 39 multi-hit games in 2008. Castro also is the first Cubs rook to record six consecutive multi-hit games since Don Johnson did so, May 21-28, 1944.

“I don’t believe that,” Castro said when told of the feat.

Cubs manager Mike Quade compared Castro to Miguel Tejada, whom Quade managed in the Minor Leagues. Castro was happy to hear that. Tejada is one of his favorite players.

But Castro was caught inbetween on a double steal by the Mets in the fourth inning Saturday. Coach Alan Trammell was right there to talk to Castro in the dugout after the inning ended. It’s another part of the learning process.

“My first reaction was to throw home,” Castro said, “but I was too late.”

He’ll be back in the lineup Sunday for the series finale vs. the Mets. Two more hits?

“Every day,” Castro said.
