9/4 Minor matters
Brad Snyder hit his 25th homer to help Iowa beat Memphis 4-2 on Friday and take a one-game lead in the Pacific Coast League Northern Division. Snyder’s blast snapped a 2-2 tie in the seventh. Luke Sommer picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Carpenter, who gave up two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings. Mitch Atkins starts Saturday for the I-Cubs in the second game of this four-game series.
Steve Clevenger had three hits and two RBIs but it wasn’t enough as Tennessee lost 5-4 in 10 innings to Carolina. Brett Jackson had two hits, including a triple, and one stolen base. Trey McNutt started and gave up three runs on eight hits over six innings.
Daytona was eliminated from the playoffs after a 3-2 loss to Lakeland. Brooks Raley gave up one run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven, but didn’t get a decision. Junior Lake hit his ninth home run.
Brett Wallach gave up three runs on two hits and three walks over four innings in Peoria’s 4-2 loss to Kane County. Jae-Hoon Ha hit a RBI double for the Chiefs and has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.
Eduardo Figueroa gave up one unearned run on two hits over five innings to get the win in Boise’s 4-3 victory over Yakima. Micah Gibbs had two hits and one RBIs.
