9/7 Marshall named Clemente nominee
Cubs pitcher Sean Marshall was named the team’s recipient of the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award presented by
Chevrolet. Marshall is one of 30 MLB nominees who are finalists
for the national award, given annually to the player who combines a dedication to giving back to the community with
outstanding skills on the baseball field. Marshall has been
an active member in the community since reaching the big leagues in 2006. He has been especially involved with Cubs Care, a fund of the McCormick
Foundation and Chicago Cubs Charities, that has granted more than $15 million to
Chicago non-profit organizations since 1991.
This year, Sean donated his time to a
unique wheelchair softball clinic for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
Caring for Kids program, which provides sports and recreation opportunities for
children with physical disabilities. Additionally, Sean teamed with the Baseball
Tomorrow Fund to present $5,000 to the Streator (Ill.) Youth Baseball League.
The funds will help rebuild fields that were destroyed by a tornado.
