9/9 Pedaling for a good cause
Cubs board member Todd Ricketts and SRAM executive vice president F.K. Day will host the inaugural “Wrigley Field Road Tour…100 Miles to Go” century ride on Saturday. The charity bike ride kicks off from Wrigley Field at 8 a.m. CT and ends 100 miles later at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The aim is to raise funding, awareness and support for World Bicycle Relief and Chicago Cubs Charities. Todd Ricketts, his brother Pete, and Day will participate.
“This event is an amazing thing that is going to benefit a lot of people worldwide,” Todd Ricketts said.
World Bicycle Relief was founded by bicycle industry leaders SRAM Corporation and Trek Bicycle Corporation in 2005 with the mission to provide access to independence and livelihood through the power of bicycles to impoverished communities throughout the world. There will be 163 bike riders pedaling for a cause. Through Tuesday, they had raised more than $105,000.
“We are all amazed by how well the ride has been received,” Todd Ricketts said. “We knew people would want to participate and help the cause, but we didn’t anticipate it taking off so quickly. We’re really impressed.”
