9/10 Smokies lose opener
Russ Canzler hit a two-run homer but it wasn’t enough as Tennessee lost 8-3 to West Tenn in the first game of the Southern League North Division playoffs. Chris Archer took the loss, giving up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks in three innings. The two teams meet again Friday with Chris Carpenter (8-6, 3.16 ERA) facing Anthony Vasquez (2-3, 2.61 ERA).
