9/12 Pitching probables

Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny had his second bullpen session Sunday at Miller Park and could be close to returning to the rotation. The only question is when. Mike Quade said Jeff Samardzija will start Sept. 18 in Florida, his first Major League start of the season. That will give the Cubs a six-man rotation. Do they go with seven when Gorzelanny is ready? He’s rehabbing after being hit on the left hand by a line drive Sept. 1. Quade said he would meet with pitching coach Larry Rothschild on Monday to discuss their options.

Rookie Casey Coleman started Sunday in the series finale against the Brewers but Quade wouldn’t say this is the right-hander’s last start.

“It’s not on my radar that this is his last start by any means but I can’t say how the rotation sets up coming out of St. Louis and going into Florida for the last 10, 11 games,” Quade said.
