9/13 Castro's out, Ramy's back, & Silva's OK

Rookie shortstop Starlin Castro was scratched from Monday’s lineup because of a bruised left hip. Castro, who ranks fifth in the National League with a .312 average, was hurt last Wednesday in a collision at first base with Houston’s Brett Wallace in the fourth inning. He went 2-for-12 in the just completed three-game series against the Brewers.

Aramis Ramirez returned to the lineup Monday. He was batting .243 with 22 homers and 73 RBIs and back in action for the first time since Sept. 5. He’s been bothered by a sore right quad.

The Cubs got good news on Carlos Silva, who returned to Chicago Monday to be examined by orthopedic specialist, Dr. Stephen Gryzlo. Silva (10-6, 4.22 ERA) has tendinitis in his right elbow and was to rejoin the Cubs in St. Louis Tuesday. Athletic trainer Mark O’Neal and pitching coach Larry Rothschild will then meet with Silva to discuss the next step.

Mike Quade said Rothschild will decide the next step for pitcher Tom Gorzelanny, who has been sidelined since Sept. 1 after he was hit on the left hand by a line drive. Gorzelanny had a small fracture on his left pinkie. He threw 40 pitches in a side session on Sunday.
