9/15 Colvin hits 20th HR
Tyler Colvin became the fourth rookie in Cubs history to hit 20 home runs in a season when he connected on a three-run shot in the seventh inning Wednesday. Colvin homered off St. Louis’ Chris Carpenter, hitting a 3-2 pitch into the right field seats.
Colvin joins Hall of Famer Billy Williams (25 homers in 1961), Geovany Soto (23 in 2008) and Walt Moryn (23 in 1956) to accomplish the feat for the Cubs. Williams and Soto both won National League Rookie of the Year.

Colvin has about 90 less AB’s than Soriano with just one less homer and just 19 less RBI. Combined with Colvin’s far superior defense, not to mention his left handed bat, how could anybody think Soriano is needed more on this team than Colvin? Hell, we might be saying the same thing about Snyder next year if the “Wise One” can unload Fukodome to make room for Snyder. Amazing when you think how Hendry decides to spend money (and years!) on outside players showing little confidence in his own system. I know Colvin was nowhere near ready when Hendry first signed Soriano but 8 years speaks volumes about how a GM plans on eventually promoting from within. Who thinks Hendry will be “allowed” to sign a free agent for 8 years again? Ha, nobody. NOW 8 years is a bad thing Jim? NOW your’e going to be a good GM? NOW, when the money train is off the tracks? Hendry should have been GOOD regardless of the open vault.
I agree with your opinions, but Henry was blinded by Soriano’s years in NY, TX and his crazy year in Washington..
homeruns, stolen bases, terrible defensive instincts, great throwing arm..good attitude,good teammate, injury prone, struckout too much on bad pitches in critical situations.
Lets just hope we get another injury free year and maybe a AL team will need a DH and then we get some prospects out of it.
