9/16 Tennessee update
Chris Carpenter gave up five runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings in Double-A Tennessee’s 7-6 loss to Jacksonville Wednesday in the Southern League playoffs. The best-of-five championship series is tied at one win apiece and will resume Friday in Jacksonville. Brandon Guyer hit a solo homer in the third to pull the Smokies within 4-3. The Smokies did escape a bases-loaded situation in the sixth when Marco Carillo got Ryan Curry to pop up after a 10-pitch at-bat. Tony Campana hit a two-run single with two outs in the eighth to tie the game at 6 but it wasn’t enough.
