9/21 Colvin tells Castillo not to worry

Welington Castillo talked to Tyler Colvin on Monday, and the outfielder told Castillo that he was doing OK and not to worry. Castillo’s broken bat struck Colvin in the chest on Sunday, and Colvin remained hospitalized in Miami on Tuesday.

“I feel really bad,” Castillo said. “I hope he’s doing good and gets out of there real soon. I talked to him and he sounds real good. I said, I’m sorry.”

Castillo has always used maple bats because the wood is harder and more durable but has never had one break and hit a player.

“You can’t worry about it,” he said. “You just have to keep playing.”

Colvin was in good spirits when Castillo called.

“He laughed a lot with me and told me, ‘Don’t worry about it, I’m fine and I’ll see you soon’ and he told me to keep playing hard,” Castillo said.

Cubs fans would like to thank Tyler for a wonderful rookie season. He is in our thoughts and prayers and hope he heals fast. We look forward to next season and having Tyler back. It is good to hear that he is doing okay. Wellington Castillo should not feel guilty though. It was the maple bat that did the damage. Obviously, we need to find alternatives to maple.
