9/30 Every game counts

Every game counts to Cubs manager Mike Quade. Thursday’s game against the Padres closes the Cubs’ stretch against playoff contenders. But there’s still something to play for this weekend.

“Every game means
something to everybody whether it’s myself or the guys who are in the lineup,” Quade said. “It’s the last game for us that will have an effect on the league as far as the
playoffs go and the postseason. Part of being a professional is playing to the
end and finding meaning in everything.”

Quade will likely play
some of the kids this weekend like Darwin Barney, Bobby Scales, Brad Snyder, and Welington Castillo

“We have to play straight
through,” he said.

The Cubs do have a chance to pass the Astros in the Central standings. Chicago was three games behind Houston and Milwaukee heading into Thursday’s games.

“They’ve had a wonderful
second half,” Quade said of the Astros. “We’ve played some contenders and played some teams that have been
tough on us and they’re been one of them. It’ll be a good challenge to go in and
see if we can compete with them at their place.”

..Grab stone from palm of hand, only then will Grasshopper find meaning in everything…

So Carrie, does it look to you like they will offer the job to Mike? He has done a phenominal job with the team since Lou stepped down and he really deserves (I think he has earned) a longer look.
