2/14 Garza on hitting

Now that Matt Garza is in the National League, he will have a lot more at-bats. In his career, he is 0-for-11 with one walk and nine strikeouts. Did he work on hitting this offseason?

“Did I what?” Garza said Monday.

Did he hit?

“Did I what?” Garza said, laughing. “I try to keep the bat out of my hands as long as possible. My first and foremost job is to get outs, as many as I can. Hitting is just a compliment. If I can get a guy over, good job. That’s what I’m here for. If you can get a bunt down, that helps the team. Better me than the four-hole guy.”
