3/22 Cubs extra bases

GM Jim Hendry, assistant GM Randy Bush, manager Mike Quade, bench coach Pat Listach, and pitching coach Mark Riggins met Tuesday morning to go over the roster. We’re not expecting any moves until possibly Wednesday.

* Augie Ojeda felt instant relief after receiving a cortisone shot in his back. He’s been bothered by back spasms. Ojeda will try to hit off a batting tee on Wednesday, and if he continues to progress, could get in a game Friday.

* Aramis Ramirez was at HoHoKam Park to work out Tuesday. He has not played since Friday because of a high fever.

* Carlos Zambrano said he had a good turnout Monday night at his home run derby fundraiser in Gilbert, Ariz., despite the rainy weather. Zambrano is next scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Athletics in Mesa.

* Justin Berg and Carlos Marmol both threw in the Minor League camp on Tuesday. Other pitchers scheduled to throw Tuesday in the Cubs’ game against the Dodgers include John Grabow, Scott Maine, Sean Marshall and Jeff Samardzija.

Hi Carrie,

Why does Augie Ojeda feel like the guy that doesn’t do much for you when he’s on your team and always kills you when he’s on the other team? He reminds me of Mark Lemke. Nobody would have wanted Lemke as their second baseman, but when you faced the Braves he was the last guy you wanted at bat with the season on the line. I’m glad Ojeda is feeling better though I just don’t seem him breaking camp with the club.

With regard to Carlos Marmol…he has perhaps the most unhittable pitch in the history of baseball. Is the new pitching coach doing anything to hone his location? The truth is that I think much of his success (kind of like Kerry Wood) comes from the fact that sometimes you just don’t know where that ball’s going when it leaves his hand.

What are the options for Jeff Samardzija? Either put him on the 25 man roster or put him on waivers? I hope something clicks with that guy. His rookie season showed so much promise. Where did all the movement on his fastball go?
