Sean Marshall was smiling Monday after watching his VCU team advance to the NCAA Final Four with a 71-61 win over top-seed Kansas. The Cubs pitcher attended the school from 2001-03, and was drafted when he was a junior.
“It was a really exciting game,” Marshall said. “I was flipping between WGN and CBS back and forth [in the clubhouse], and I’m the only person in here cheering during our game.”
He sent a text to the athletic director and told him to keep going.
“They’ve been flying under the radar but not anymore,” Marshall said.
