4/9 Minor League report
Matt Camp hit a tie-breaking two-run double in the eighth to help Iowa beat Round Rock, 6-4, on Friday. Chris Carpenter picked up the win in relief and Scott Maine notched the save, his second in a row. Starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx gave up three runs on six hits and struck out six over six innings. Camp, Lou Montanez, Bobby Scales, and Marquez Smith each had two hits. Robert Coello will start Saturday night for the I-Cubs.
Jim Adduci homered and Blake Lalli had three hits to lead Tennessee’s 15-hit attack in a 6-3 win over Chattanooga. Rafael Dolis gave up one run on two hits over four innings and struck out five. Marco Carillo picked up the win in relief.
In front of a near-record crowd of 5,017 at Jackie Robinson Ball Park in Daytona Beach, Daytona beat Brevard County, 7-3. Justin Bour hit a three-run homer and Michael Burgess hit a two-run shot. Nick Struck picked up the win. The Daytona Cubs faced big leaguer LaTroy Hawkins, who was making an injury rehab appearance for Brevard County. Welington Castillo and Michael Brenly ech singled off Hawkins, who threw two scoreless innings.
Hayden Simpson gave up one run on three hits over 3 2/3 innings and struck out seven in his first start for Class A Peoria. But that was Thursday, and that game was called because of rain. It was resumed on Friday and the Chiefs gave up five runs in the ninth to lose, 7-3, to Cedar Rapids. The Chiefs then beat Cedar Rapids, 8-2.
