4/10 Minor League report & Ortiz
Robert Coello gave up seven runs on eight hits and four walks over four innings in Iowa’s 13-9 loss to Round Rock Saturday. Bryan LaHair and Scott Moore each hit home runs and each drove in three runs. Lefty J.R. Mathes is scheduled to start Sunday.
Alberto Cabrera struck out seven but also gave up three runs on five hits and three walks over four innings in Tennessee’s 12-4 loss to Chattanooga. Steve Clevenger hit his first homer.
Aaron Kurcz gave up three runs on four hits over five innings in Daytona’s 7-3 win over Brevard County. Justin Bour homered for the second consecutive game and Nelson Perez smacked two homers and drove in three runs. Welington Castillo, still bothered by a sore right index finger, was the DH for the Daytona Cubs and had two hits.
Pierre LaPage had three hits and one RBI and Matt Szczur had two hits, two RBI, and stole a base in Peoria’s 12-9, 12-inning loss to Cedar Rapids. Micah Gibbs also had two hits and stole a base.
* The Iowa Cubs also announced veteran Ramon Ortiz is joining the roster and will make his first start Monday night at Albuquerque. The 37-year-old Ortiz made 16 appearances (eight starts) with the Dodgers last season and also made stops with Triple-A Buffalo in the Mets system and Triple-A Durham in the Rays system. He was 3-5 with a 5.31 ERA in 28 games (14 starts) between the stops. Ortiz has pitched for the Angels (2000-04), Reds(2005), Nationals (2006), Twins (2007), Rockies (2007), and the Dodgers (2010). In 274 career games (212 starts) in the majors, he is 85-82 with a 4.93 ERA. He also spent the 2008 season pitching for the Orix Buffaloes in Japan.
