4/12 Minor League report
On Sunday, Max Ramirez contributed to a 15-hit attack with a home run to help Iowa beat Round Rock, 8-6. Starter J.R. Mathes gave up two runs on seven hits over four innings and did not get a decision. Tony Campana had four hits and Lou Montanez had four RBIs. Justin Berg picked up the win in relief and John Gaub got the save.
Brett Jackson smacked a grand slam to help Tennessee beat Chattanooga, 8-5. DJ LeMahieu hd three hits. Starter Trey McNutt had to leave the game after 2 2/3 innings because of a blister on his middle finger.
Daytona overcame a 5-0 first inning deficit to beat Brevard County, 11-7. Seven Cubs had at least two hits apiece. Welington Castillo, who is being used as the DH as he heals from a finger injury, hit his first home run.
Greg Rohan, Rubi Silva and Richard Jones each homered to help Peoria beat Cedar Rapids, 9-6.
* On Monday, Michael Burgess had three hits, including two homers, and five RBIs to help Daytona beat Clearwater, 6-5. He was acquired by the Cubs in January from the Nationals in the Tom Gorzelanny deal. Burgess was selected 49th overall in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
Ramon Ortiz gave up two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings and struck out seven in Iowa’s 6-5, 10-inning loss to Albuquerque. Tony Campana had three hits and two RBIs for Iowa. Scott Maine took the loss.
Ryan Flaherty, Josh Vitters and Steve Clevenger each homered but it wasn’t enough as Tennessee lost, 6-5, to Chattanooga in a game shortened to six innings.
Matt Szczur hd two hits in Peoria’s 4-2 loss to Burlington.
* Minor League notes: Augie Ojeda has yet to play because of back spasms that bothered him in Spring Training. Todd Wellemeyer also has yet to pitch because of a sore right hip.
