4/22 Lineup & extra bases

Starlin Castro is back in the No. 3 spot for the second straight game for the Cubs. Here’s today’s lineup:

RF Fukudome
2B Barney
SS Castro
3B Ramirez
1B Pena
CF Byrd
LF Soriano
C Soto
P Coleman

* Pitching matchups for the Dodgers at Cubs series:
Today: Chad Billingsley (1-1, 4.91 ERA) vs. Casey Coleman (1-0, 4.22 ERA)
Saturday: Ted Lilly (1-2, 4.09 ERA) vs. Ryan Dempster (1-2, 6.84 ERA)
Sunday: Hiroki Kuroda (2-2, 3.33 ERA) vs. Carlos Zambrano (2-0, 4.21 ERA)

* Geovany Soto threw out three baserunners in Wednesday’s second game. He’s the first Cubs catcher in 15 years to throw out three in one game. Scott Servais last did that April 15, 1996, at Wrigley Field. Soto has thrown out seven of 25 runners.

* Today is 22q Awareness Day at Wrigley Field, hosted by Ryan Dempster. Fans coming to the game will receive a special Ryan Dempster photo card and support bracelets. Dempster has invited 175 kids, nurses and supporters to the game. Abby Oates, who is affected by the 22q deletion, will throw out the first pitch. The Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of 22q11.2 deletion, known as DiGeorge Syndrome, and reaching out to families with children with the disorder as well as charities that support them.

* Former Cubs catcher Randy Hundley was scheduled to sing the seventh inning stretch. … Kosuke Fukudome’s new daughter’s name is Haruka, which means “spring.”

Here the Cub’s go again! For once, they have discovered a
great one/two punch at the top of their batting order, and
what do they do, they scrap it. With the energy…excitement
and hits they have provided so far, why in the world have
the Cubs not stuck with Castro and Barney in the number
1 and 2 spots? It makes no sense at all!

i agree… wish they would have left him as the leadoff and tried ARAM 3 and Soriano 4 Soto 5

The recent history of field managers at times mirrors the the history of the General Manager. Now Quade is getting caught up in the idea that if only he finds “the right” line up it will lead us to the holy grail instead of formulating A LONG TERM, CONSISTANT PLAN FOR SUCCESS and what better year to acclimate certain players he KNOWS sould be here for a long time? But of course with the General Mangler Hendry still in charge of the roster and having the mind set of finding “the lightning in the bottle” (Soriano, Fukodome, BRADLEY, Pena…etc. etc.) impact players leading us to the holy grail maybe Quade (and other past managers) think that it matters not who is 1 & 2 in the line up as Hendry will probably get some other RE-HAB project to bat lead off next year in his endless, misbegotten quest of his satisfactory goal of an over .500 ball club because that is all that matters. Not a World Series appearance, just a winning record to add to his resume. Fukodome is not batting leadoff because he is very good at it, a base stealing threat or an ignitor of runs. He is in that spot only because he failed to be the run producer HENDRY THOUGHT he was and would have an adverse effect on the team in a run producing spot in the line up. Do we give Quade credit for THAT or do we blame him for not having the guts to sit Fukodome down and DEVELOP Colvin in RF as THE RUN PRODUCER the 2012 team will need to count on and DEVELOP Castro and Barney at the top of the order for the same reason? I think the later. What good is playing the under performing Fukodome in the last year of his contract? To keep Hendry’s job? I guess Quade and Hendry have a “scratch your back” relationship? If the line is “evolving” (oooh…nice phrase Mike!) than why WOULDN’T Quade move Soriano up while the miracle of him actually hitting a home run or two is possible? Hendry saddled Quade with a real cast of players that are easily exposed. Hope and Change ain’t workin’ at Wrigley, that’s for sure.
