5/1 April numbers

Alfonso Soriano set a club record for most home runs in April with 10, which tied Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun for the Major League lead. Soriano is the first Cubs player since 1980 to at least share the big league lead in home runs at the end of April. Dave Kingman had six entering play May 1, 1980, which was tied with Joe Rudi and Roy Smalley Jr. for the lead.

The previous Cubs mark was eight home runs, shared by three players and done three times.

1958: Lee Walls, 8 HR
2000 & 2002: Sammy Sosa, 8 HR
2008: Derrek Lee, 8 HR

* Starlin Castro finished April with 40 hits, which tied the Major League mark for the most by a player 21 or younger, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Alex Rodriguez had 40 hits in April 1997. Castro finished the month second all-time for the Cubs.
