5/11 Minor League report
Doug Davis gave up two runs on four hits over 3 2/3 innings in Iowa’s 13-6 loss to Colorado Springs on Tuesday night. Bryan LaHair had four hits, including two home runs. Davis struck out five.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s game between the Iowa Cubs and Colorado Springs was postponed because of rain. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday. Jay Jackson will start the first game, followed by Austin Bibens-Dirks.
Brooks Raley gave up five runs on 11 hits over four innings in Tennessee’s 7-5 loss to Huntsville. Blake Lalli hd two hits, including a solo homer in the seventh.
Zachary Rosscup threw five shutout innings in Daytona’s 4-2 win over Jupiter. Luis Flores and Justin Bour each homered. Bour connected for the third straight game and had three hits and two RBIs.
Hayden Simpson, the Cubs’ 2010 No. 1 Draft pick, gave up two hits over one inning and was then pulled because of stiffness in his shoulder in Peoria’s 2-1, 11 inning win over Burlington. Richard Jones had four hits and Matt Szczur extended his hitting streak to seven games with two hits. Simpson told the Peoria Journal Star he wasn’t sure what caused the discomfort. “The shoulder was just tight, maybe I slept on it wrong,” Simpson said. “There’s no pain. All we know is that it was tight today.”
On Wednesday, the Peoria Journal-Star reported Simpson was working out and doing drills, so the injury would not appear to be serious.
