6/3 Whitenack to have Tommy John surgery

Cubs Minor League pitcher Rob Whitenack will undergo Tommy John surgery next week. The Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald first reported that Whitenack came to Chicago to be examined after some discomfort in his elbow while pitching for Double-A Tennessee. An eighth-round pick in 2009, Whitenack went 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA with Class A Daytona and was 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA with Tennessee this season. In 60 2/3 innings combined, he gave up 13 earned runs and struck out 47.
