6/4 Extra bases

Rodrigo Lopez was used in relief on Friday for the first time since joining the Cubs and he may end up in the bullpen. The Cubs have to make a roster move Monday when Matt Garza is activated from the DL. Either Lopez or Doug Davis would appear to be the odd men out. Davis has pitched 20 games in relief, and that was when he first broke into the big leagues.

Lopez did well Friday. He had to face the Cardinals’ 3-4-5-6 hitters, including Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman and Yadier Molina.

“It looks like [Lopez] is an option either way,” Mike Quade said. “I’m not sure that Dougie is quite as flexible.”

* Aramis Ramirez could be back in the starting lineup Sunday. He was able to hit off a batting tee Friday. Ramirez still has a swollen left lip he suffered when he was hit in the face by a ball on Wednesday.

* It’s 95 degrees at Busch Stadium Saturday, and Quade said Koyie Hill will catch Sunday when Carlos Zambrano closes the series against Chris Carpenter.

* The Cubs have the ninth pick overall in Monday’s First-Year Player Draft.
