6/10 No. 9
Here’s some Draft trivia: The Cubs selected shortstop Javier Baez ninth overall in the first round of the First-Year Player Draft. Other notable players taken ninth overall include John Danks (2003), Barry Zito (1999), Michael Cuddyer (1997), Kevin Appier (1987), Ron Darling (1981), Steve Buechele (1979), and Clint Hurdle (1975). Of the 46 players selected ninth in the first round since 1965, 27 — or 58 percent — have played in the Major Leagues.
For the Cubs, they’ve had the ninth pick in the first round twice before and selected Ty Griffin in 1988 and Derrick May in 1986.

Griffin and May….ouch. Here’s hoping that somebody actually scouted and drafted a talented player. Maybe we got lucky and Hendry nodded off at the draft and Wilken picked Baez with out
any input from Hendry. Hoping, after all is what we Cubs fans do best.
