Bobby Scales hit a grand slam and Bryan LaHair hit his 18th homer to power Iowa to a 9-5 victory over Omaha on Wednesday. Ramon Ortiz gave up four runs on eight hits over eight innings for the win. Casey Coleman was scheduled to start Thursday.
Daytona’s game against Brevard County was called after five innings because of smoke from area wildfires. The D-Cubs lost, 5-1. Dae-Eun Rhee gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits over five innings.
Angel Guzman gave up one run on two hits over two innings in Peoria’s 2-1 loss to Wisconsin in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Cam Greathouse gave up six runs on three hits and four walks over four innings in a 6-2 loss. Matt Szczur did get hits in both games to extend his hitting streak to six.
