7/1 Minor League report
Bryan LaHair had three hits, including his 22nd home run, in Iowa’s 7-6 loss to New Orleans. Marwin Gonzlaez extended his hitting streak to three games with a two-hit effort. Ramon Ortiz is slated to start Friday. He’s 6-3 with a 4.44 ERA, and could be inserted into the rotation next week to take Carlos Zambrano’s spot. Marlon Byrd was 1-for-4 and hit by a pitch again — this time in the leg.
Brett Jackson and Blake Lalli each had two hits to help Tennessee beat Carolina, 7-5. Jackson scored three runs, Lalli had two doubles. Jeff Stevens earned the win in relief.
Peoria lost, 4-2, to Burlington. Eric Jokisch gave up two runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven but did not get a decision.
Starling Peralta gave up one run on three hits over five innings in Mesa’s 5-2 win over the Royals.
