7/1 Ramirez reaches 300 HR

Aramis Ramirez hit his 300th career homer with one out in the sixth inning Friday, and his sixth in his last eight games. Ramirez is the ninth player to reach the milestone with the Cubs. Last season, Derrek Lee and Alfonso Soriano both did so just two days apart on June 9 and June 11, respectively. Ramirez is the 131st player in Major League history to reach 300. The Yankees’ Mark Teixeira did so on Thursday.

With one out in the sixth, Ramirez connected on a 1-2 pitch from the White Sox’s Edwin Jackson, and the ball landed in the left field bleachers.

The third baseman’s 224 homers rank seventh in franchise history; next up is Gabby Hartnett who hit 231 with the Cubs.
