7/3 Simpson to Mesa
Hayden Simpson, the Cubs’ No. 1 Draft pick in 2010, was sent to the Mesa Cubs of the Arizona Rookie League. Simpson was 1-6 with a 5.72 ERA in 16 starts with Class A Peoria. He’s given up 76 hits and walked 27 over 61 1/3 innings. In his last start Friday against Burlington, he gave up six runs on six hits over 1 2/3 innings and took the loss. This is Simpson’s first pro season. He was sidelined with mononucleosis shortly after he was selected in the June 2010 Draft.
