7/6 Dempster throws
Ryan Dempster, scratched from Monday’s scheduled start because of soreness in his core and stomach, threw in the outfield on Wednesday. Pitching coach Mark Riggins and athletic trainer Mark O’Neal watched the brief workout at Nationals Park. The Cubs need a starter for Saturday’s game against the Pirates.
