7/23 Gillick says rumors “untrue”
Pat Gillick denied a Chicago radio report that he has talked to Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts about possibly joining the team as the GM, saying “it’s entirely not true.” Gillick, who was being inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend in Cooperstown, said he’s never met the Cubs owner.
“I don’t know Mr. Ricketts,” Gillick told reporters on Saturday. “I’ve never even met him.”
Gillick, 73, currently employed by the Phillies, said he thinks current Cubs GM Jim Hendry is doing a good job.
“They’ve had a lot of injuries,” Gillick said. “I’ve always found Jim to be very forthright.”
