8/18 Minor League report

Lou Montanez hit a three-run double to key a four-run ninth inning and lift Iowa to a 9-7 win over Salt Lake on Wednesday. Bryan LaHair belted his 34th homer, tops in the Minor Leagues. Brett Jackson added a RBI triple. Scott Maine picked up the win in relief.

The I-Cubs added catcher Carlos Romero to the active roster. Welington Castillo remains on the roster but left the team to be present for the birth of his first child. Romero, 21, was playing for the Cubs’ Rookie team in Mesa. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in February 2007.

Been out in Salt Lake the last few years and love to catch the Cubs when they’re out here. This team has played solid baseball the first 2 games of the series and each player appears to really want to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. The ninth inning rally last night reminded me of the rally the Chicago Cubs had a couple months ago late in June against the Giants with a win in extra innings. Looking forward to the future of the Cubs!
