9/1 Cubs Minor League report

Jay Jackson struck out 11 and gave up one run on seven hits over six innings in Iowa’s 1-0 loss to Nashville. Jackson tied a career high with the 11 Ks. The Iowa Cubs have five games remaining, ending the season on Monday against Omaha.

Tennessee had the day off. The Smokies travel to Birmingham Thursday and end the regular season Monday.

Daytona beat Tampa 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. Dae-Eun Rhee gave up three runs on six hits over seven innings and struck out seven for the win. Matt Szczur had two hits, including his fifth home run, and drove in three runs. In the second game, Frank Del Valle gave up two runs on three hits over four innings and took the loss, a 4-1 decision. The Daytona Cubs hit into a triple play with the bases loaded in the second inning.

Despite the split, the D-Cubs can start thinking about next week’s playoffs. Daytona won the first half North Division title with a 47-23 record to secure a spot. Rhee was scheduled to start Game 1 of the FSL North Division best-of-three series on Tuesday. The Cubs’ opponent has not been decided.

Austin Kirk gave up six runs — three earned — on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings in Peoria’s 8-3 loss to Beloit. Ben Klafcynski had two hits and one RBIs. The Chiefs end the season Monday against Quad Cities.

Boise kept its playoff hopes alive with a 10-1 win over Vancouver. Jose Rosario threw six shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out six. Reggie Golden, Paul Hoilman and Wilson Contreras each homered. Hoilman’s homer was his 17th, which set a club record and broke the old mark of 16 set by Russ Canzler in 2006.
