9/5 Cubs Minor League report
* Double-A Tennessee will host Chattanooga on Thursday and Friday in Games 1 and 2 of the five-game Southern League Division Series. The Smokies wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader split on Sunday. The Smokies lost the first game to Birmingham, 5-1, and won the second game, 5-1. Josh Vitters hit his 14th homer in the night cap and finished with four RBIs.
* Daytona ended the regular season with a 6-4 loss to Brevard County on Sunday. Chad Noble had two hits, including his first home run.
* On Monday, Peoria ended its season with a 9-3 loss to Quad Cities. Even though he did not drive in a run in the game, first baseman Richard Jones became the first player in team history to lead the Midwest League in RBI, finishing with 98. The Chiefs finished 27-42 in the second half and 60-79 overall in 2011. Austin Kirk (5-12) took the loss, giving up four earned runs and three hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six. Micah Gibbs went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and one RBI. Jones also led the Midwest League in total bases (254) and intentional walks (8). Rubi Silva went 2-for-5 to finish the season at .300.
* Boise will play the first game of the Northwest League playoffs on Monday, playing host to Tri-City in the East Divisional Series. Boise won five of its final six games to clinch the second playoff spot.
