9/6 Cubs Minor League report
Brett Jackson hit a leadoff homer to back Jay Jackson and lead Iowa to a 7-2 victory Monday over Omaha in the last regular season game. With the win, the I-Cubs finished 40-31 at home. Jay Jackson gave up two runs on five hits over five innings and struck out three. He finished 8-14 with a 5.34 ERA. Brett Jackson finished the regular season with a .297 average.
* In a nice gesture, the Iowa Cubs played the Canadian national anthem before the game in honor of catcher Chris Robinson, a Canadian. He has played three seasons in Iowa, and is a free agent now.
Double-A Tennessee opens the North Division championship series against Chattanooga on Thursday at home.
Class A Daytona opens the North Division championship series on Tuesday against Dunedin.
Peoria closed the regular season with a 9-3 loss to Quad Cities. The Chiefs finished 60-79, the most losses since 2001 when they lost 81 games. Austin Kirk took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits over 4 2/3 innings. Rubi Silva had two hits and finished the year with a .300 average.
Boise dropped the first game of its best of three Division Series to Tri-City, 6-0. Jose Rosario gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits over four innings. Ryan Cuneo had two hits. Game 2 of the best of five series will be played Tuesday.
