The Cubs will release the 2012 schedule on Wednesday. Looking ahead, they will open next season at home April 5 against the Nationals and also play host to the Red Sox and Tigers in Interleague games at Wrigley Field next June. The first homestand will include a three-game set with the Nationals over four days (April 5 and April 7-8), and then they’ll entertain the Brewers April 9-12, then travel to St. Louis to face their rivals, the Cardinals, April 13-15.
The Cubs play their intracity rivals, the White Sox, at Wrigley Field on May 18-20, and at U.S. Cellular Field on June 18-20. The White Sox took the 2011 season series, 2-4. In other Interleague games, the Cubs will travel to Minnesota to face the Twins June 8-10, play host to the Tigers on June 12-14, and the Red Sox June 15-17. This year, the Cubs went to Fenway Park and lost two of three to the Red Sox. The Cubs last played the Twins and Tigers in 2009.
Looking ahead to the holidays? The Cubs will face the Nationals on Easter Sunday April 8 and play the Padres on Memorial Day plus play host to the Red Sox on Father’s Day, June 17. The Cubs are scheduled to be in Milwaukee for Mother’s Day May 13, in Atlanta for Fourth of July, and in Washington D.C. for Labor Day on Sept. 3.
The Cubs will close the season with a trip to Colorado Sept. 25-27 and Arizona Sept. 28-30 before wrapping up the 2012 campaign at home against the Astros, Oct. 1-3.
