10/3 The GM search continues

Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts did not offer any clues as to who will be the team’s next GM in an interview with Fox Business Network. Ricketts would not address rumors that Red Sox GM Theo Epstein may be interested in the Cubs.

“I don’t know; there’s a lot of good candidates out there,” Ricketts said in the interview Monday. “We’re going to talk to a handful of them and I’m sure we’ll come up with the right fit for the team. Ultimately, it will be the decision of myself and my family. Obviously, we didn’t get it done on the field this year. It was a disappointing season for everyone, but we’re going to get some new leadership.”

Ricketts sounded like all Cubs fans when he discussed the fifth-place finish.

“Going to both this season and last season, we thought we had a team that would perform better than it turned out to perform,” he said. “You can’t go back in time, you look forward, we have a lot of good things to build on and we’ll get there.”

According to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, the Cubs’ short list of candidates includes Red Sox assistant GM Ben Cherington, White Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn and Braves director of professional scouting John Coppolella.

The GM search continues. THANK YOU.

He doesn’t sound like most Cubs fans – few Cubs fans were surprised by 5th place… the fact that he was surprised that the 2010 and 2011 rosters didn’t deliver is of huge concern… just waiting for Tommy to start singing FRAT GUY IN A LITTLE COAT…

Let’s hope it is the kind of new leadership that understands the “club house presence” that Calos Pena brings to the table is not enough to offset what he lacks in the run production/hitting department and if brought back Pena would be just another OLD leadership move we’ve seen Hendry pull off too many times.
