11/16 Cubs look for pitching help – UPDATE

The Cubs may be one of several teams to talk to Bob Garber, agent for free agent pitcher C.J. Wilson. SI.com’s Jon Heyman says Wilson is seeking a six-year, $120 million deal, which could price him out of the Cubs’ market. Garber was to meet with at least 10 teams at the GM Meetings, including the Marlins, Yankees, Royals, Angels, Nationals, Rockies, and Rangers. When asked if he had talked to Theo Epstein, Garber smiled.

“I’m not going to comment on that at this point,” Garber said. “You can ask Theo that.”

Could Mark Buehrle switch to the north side of Chicago? According to FOX Sports, the Cubs have had multiple discussions with  Buehrle’s agent, Jeff Berry. The other teams interested in the left-hander include the White Sox, Marlins, Blue Jays, Royals, Angels, Nationals and Diamondbacks.Buehrle is 24-6 in 40 games (39 starts) his career against National League teams with a 3.32 ERA. And, against the NL Central, he’s 13-4 with a 3.28 ERA. Last season, he won 13 games for the fourth straight year, going 13-9 with a 3.59 ERA.

The Cubs do need pitching — a lack of depth was a problem last year. Heyman also reported the Cubs and Royals are talking to Scott Boras about pitcher Bruce Chen. The 34-year-old left-hander was 12-8 with a 3.77 ERA last season with the Royals, and has pitched for the Braves, Phillies, Mets, Expos, Reds, Astros, Red Sox, Orioles and Rangers besides the Royals.

if Buehrle is cheap that would be a great option!! Maybe he could push Ricketts to update the turd they call Wrigley too. Not real excited about Bruce Chen tho…. would much rather see Darvish…obviously

Who would we rather have for 14 mil in 2012? Dempster or Buehrele? Thanks, Mr.Hendry your legacy of handcuffing this team continues….
Squeezing Buehrle into the rotation would go a long way and certainly make the new manager’s job a little easier when dealing with the bullpen. It’s just a matter of how far Epstein thinks the Cubs will actually compete in 2012. With the Brewers losing Feilder and the Cards losing LaRussa and MAYBE Pujols….Epstein may pull off a much better chance of taking the NL Central title than we’ve seen in a while.

this just in… Pujols expected to sign by Friday with the Cards….. I would say that handcuffs the Cards giving the Cubs a chance to get Buerhle………
