12/12 What’s your lineup?

Opening Day is more than three months away but Cubs fans have been speculating about the 2012 lineup. Here are a couple suggestions I’ve seen:

DeJesus RF
Barney 2B
Castro 3B
LaHair 1B
Soriano LF
Byrd CF
Stewart 3B
Soto C

Or, some want Castro as the leadoff man:

Castro SS
Byrd CF
LaHair 1B
Soriano LF
DeJesus RF
Stewart 3B
Soto C
Barney 2B

New manager Dale Sveum said he has been tinkering a little with possible lineups but wants to wait until the roster is set. Have any ideas for him?

Jackson
Castro
Lahair
DeJesus
Byrd
Stewart
Soto
Barney

LF DeJesus
2B Barney
SS Castro
1B Fielder
RF Lahair
CF Byrd
3B Stewart
C Soto

Until Fielder replaces LaHair (Sorry Bryan)…

Lil’ Tony Campana CF
Darwin Barney 2B
Starlin Castro SS
Bryan “Soon To Be Prince” LaHair 1B
David “Not Ivan” DeJesus RF
Brett Jackson LF
Geovany “Probably Castillo” Soto C
Ian “To Soon To Move Up In The Order” Stewart 3B

Forgive me but I’ll take my chances with defense and speed (Campana) over
strike outs, double play balls, bad routes & homeruns (Soriano).

Joey, I’m amazed that we agree on something, but I actually really like your lineup. I also would like to see the Lil guy get some love and be an everyday starter. I think his plate discipline will only get better as the season goes on and he’ll steal about 100 bases and who knows how many runs he’ll score. He needs to be an everyday player.

DeJesus- Rf
Castro- SS
LaHair- 1B
Byrd- CF
Soranio- LF
Soto- C
Stewart- 3B
Barney- 2B

I have to beleive the Cubs will still be making changes, cause if they do not add any players, this team will surely dissappoint many of us Cub fans.

theo reviewed these lineups and he has just been spotted at a Starbucks outside Fenway Park.

DeJesus RF (L)
Castro SS (R)
Fielder 1B (L)
Cespedes CF (R)
LaHair LF (L)
Soto C (R)
Stewart 3B (L)
Barney 2B (R)

De Jesus
Byrd
Castro
LaHair/Fielder
Soriano
Stewart
Barney

Campana CF
Castro SS
DeJesus RF
LaHair 1B
Soto C
Byrd LF
Stewart 3rd
Barney 2nd

That is an ugly lineup but with the current roster that’s the best I have.

To Beokayian …. nice, I forgot about keeping LaHair in the line up in left field should we get Fielder for 1B. LaHair CAN’T be worse than Soriano right?

DeJesus- RF
Castro- SS
Fielder- 1B
Headley- 3B
Byrd- CF
Cespedes- LF
Soto- C
Stewart- 2B

I still think there is a Headley trade around the corner and I believe we will sign Fielder. And with all the hype with Cespedes, I hope/think we will make a huge push for Cespedes. Maybe he plays center and Byrd plays LF. Not a bad lineup. I think we can compete with anyone with this lineup.

that line up would be nasty! hope it happens. however i think Lahair needs a shot

He can back-up in the outfield for the time being. maybe make some spot-starts

sign cespedes and fielder, trade away soriano and zambrano and just eat about half the money they are each owed, then build a package around brett jackson to trade for james shields, or perhaps zack grienke, then give laHair a shot in left feild and be able to have Marlon Byrd as insurance, or maybe even platoon them at first to see who will take control of the job
Lineup:
RF DeJesus
2B Barney
SS Castro
1B Fielder
CF Cespedes
LF Lahair
C Soto
3B Stewart

this lineup with a pitching rotation of Garza, Shields, Dempster, Wells, and either Cashner or Samardijza we would have a decent chance at winning a very winnable division, also the Cubs payroll would most likely be lower then it was last year with the opportunity to continue to developing young minor leaguers instead of having older players hog the postition, for example: Josh Vitters potentially at 3rd, Lake potentially at 2nd, and szcur in any postition,
what do you all think?

You should be our GM, u didnt give up the farm and made the team very competitive, well done.

Pman, thanks! Just for that little olive branch I will do my best to refrain from my refrain of Hendry bashing…it’s just so hard…you know? But, I will sincerely try to get over it and move on. 2012 will usher in an opportunity for much enthusiastic fan support now that we no longer have the bumbling Hend….doh! I will try to keep my word to Pman and stop. Even if Campana plays a role, let’s hope it’s a much bigger role than last year, right Pman? Go Lil’ Tony! I hope Sveum proves us both right.

There has been too much hype on Brett Jackson to trade him and just him alone would not get the job done for Shields. It would take much more, It would be Jackson and McNutt and probably our next best pitching prospect. Look at what we had to give up to get Garza, it would take a bit more for Shields.

I think we should focus on Yu Darvish and take a chance at him. Not give up Jackson. Darvish has a shot to be a very good pitcher. Then sign Fielder and Cepedes. Still think we should trade for Headley (he will hit even better in Wrigley then at Petco Park).

DeJesus- RF
Castro- SS
Fielder- 1B
Headley- 3B
Cespedes- LF
Byrd- CF
Soto- C
Stewart- 2B

Rotation
Garza
Dempster
Darvish
Zambrano (give him a shot, would be a good 4th starter)
Cashner/Samardzija/Wells

What do you think?

I like this, Theo r u listening?

Dejesus – RF
Castro – SS
Fielder – 1B
Cespedes – CF
Soriano – LF
Stewart – 3B
Soto – C
Barney/Junior Lake – 2B

IMO until Castro gets some pop in his bat you keep him locked in the 2hole… thats where we get the most production from him.

I actually do like this lineup… I have us trading Byrd instead of Soriano just because of the money… you could easily swap Byrd back into5 hole and put Cespedes in LF with Byrd in CF

If we swing and miss on Fielder AND Cespedes we are in for a long next few seasons…. one that may just brake me to switch to watching the Rangers.. sorry I am just sick of the Cubs BS

Love the line up and staff. Theo r u listening?

I don’t care if Castro lacks pop, he is as of right now the best hitter on the team and belongs in the 3 hole until a better HITTER comes forward. I would rather have a single or a double from Castro from the 3 hole driving in ONE run rather than have him on base depending on WHO???? in the 3 hole to come up with a lousy single or double to drive him in. Right now there is NOBODY in this line up that can produce at a .300 clip. Even with Fielder…Castro 3, Fielder with his POP in the CLEAN UP spot where he belongs, PROTECTING Castro. Better to have a good hitter (not great, I know…) like DeJesus protect Fielder rather than a rookie.

ur best contact hitter should go #2…. plain and simple… that gives you the best chance to have guys in scoring position for the 3 and 4 hitter. I know we are all in love with Castro but he will never be a power hitter… but he is going to be a GREAT contact hitter. Quite possibly the best in the league for a number of years. Why would we want him to change what he already does so well? Its just another reason why we NEED Fielder… having him and Castro for the next 6 or 7 years makes me drool… then add in some role players and another above average power hitter (Cespedes? or Soler) and we got a good thing going… you strike out of Fielder and you set this franchise up for a lot of years of losing once again
