12/16 Cubs reportedly considering Maholm
The Cubs are reportedly talking to lefty Paul Maholm’s agent. ESPN.com reported the interest on Friday. Maholm, 29, became a free agent after the Pirates declined to pick up the $9.75 million option on the pitcher’s contract for 2012. A ground ball pitcher, he would be a good fit at Wrigley Field, where Maholm has a career 6-2 record in 11 starts.

Ok, 30 plus starts the last two years, and close to 200 innings each year. He will fit into the 4 or 5 spot in the rotation. But it needs to be less than that opt. that the Bucs turned down.
I think he could be a good fit.
The question is what do we do with, Samardzija, Wells, & Cashner. Last year taught us that you can never have enough starting pitching, but who gets the role to start with?
I’d like to see what Samardzija, & Cashner can do. If we are not thinking of winning next year it woud be nice to see those guys prove something one way or the other.
