3/2 Friday roundup & Saturday’s lineups

Matt Szczur drove in six runs, hitting a grand slam and two-run double, and scored from second on a sacrifice fly as the Blue team beat the White team, 10-4, in the Cubs intrasquad game Friday at HoHoKam Park. Szczur said it was his first slam since Little League. Brett Jackson hit a leadoff homer and RBI double and Tony Campana had three hits and scored three runs for the Blue team, which was “managed” by Spring Training guest coach Rick Sutcliffe.

Travis Wood, battling for one of the two openings in the rotation, started for the White team, and gave up six runs on six hits, including the two homers, over three innings. Randy Wells, also competing for a starter spot, gave up three runs on four hits over three innings for the Blue squad.

A who’s-who of “Never-Will-Bes”. Bobby Scales, just hang em up already, how old is he, 34?

Played at a high level for a long time–Triple A players are significant athletes and can be proud of their careers.

“Never-Will-Bes”? Rizzo, Clevenger, Szczur, Jackson, Cardenas, … Don’t be surprised if 2 or 3 of these guys will be on the 25-man roster (and even in starting line-up) at the end of the season.

You tell em’ Belgian! er, I mean ME…uh, no Belgian, wait, no..so confusing when somebody thinks like I do, er, I mean like Belgian does. No, wait I mean…Go Tony Campana! I hope Tony shows Sveum how much more valuable a total contributor he is than Soriano.
