3/6 Looking for that 1st “W”

It’s early and only Cactus League play but Dale Sveum wouldn’t mind a “W.” The Cubs are 0-2 heading into Tuesday’s game against the Rockies at HoHoKam.

“We’ve had a couple close games and couldn’t seal the deal there,” Sveum said of the back to back one-run losses to the Athletics. “They got the upper hand in the ninth in the last two days.

“I’m seeing a lot of good things, a lot of good at-bats,” he said. “Guys are still competing and playing really hard. We have to throw more strikes, get quicker outs. You’ve seen the first five innings, we didn’t walk anybody and got quick outs and I think we only threw 50 pitches in the first five innings and then about 100 [pitches] almost after that. It comes down to the pitching and throwing strikes and getting quick outs.”
