3/16 DeJesus wins Cubs bunt tourney
David DeJesus beat Casey Coleman to win the Cubs first bunting tournament, held Friday on a back field at HoHoKam Park. DeJesus topped Welington Castillo in the semifinals and Coleman beat Paul Maholm to advance.
“There was a little pressure there — everyone’s watching, everyone’s rooting for their guy,” DeJesus said. “I was able to stay relaxed and get points on every bunt.”
Coleman had to try for the 100-point mark on the field to try and catch DeJesus. In the early rounds, the players each had three rounds of eight bunts, four to each side. In the final, they had five rounds.
“It was definitely a good time,” DeJesus said.
