3/17 Clevenger, Castillo down to wire

The Cubs may not be able to name their backup catcher until the final week of Spring Training, it’s that close between Welington Castillo and Steve Clevenger.

“It’s going to be interesting,” Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. “Somebody’s just going to get screwed, basically, unfortunately. It’s going to be one of those things where you say, ‘I don’t have an answer but you’re not the guy unfortunately.’ They both have their own assets and they’re both really good. A lot of teams would die for that situation. it’s a great situation for us to have but it’s going to be tough for one of them to go down.”

The Cubs are being thorough, asking the pitchers as well about who will backup Geovany Soto.

“They like them, they like throwing to them,” Sveum said. “They’re both really good back there.”

Being that Clevenger gave my son Will his Catchers mitt here in Daytona in 2008 after the FSL Championship…I think Steve is the better fit!!! Sorry Wellington!!!

Somebody’s going to get screwed…like Jackson due to Hendriano in LF, except in Jackson’s case we fans are getting screwed along with him.
