4/7 Minor League report – Thursday & Friday
Randy Wells gave up two hits and walked three over six innings to help the Iowa Cubs win their season opener over Round Rock on Thursday. Tony Campana was 2-for-4 and Brett Jackson had two hits, two RBIs and a stolen base. Anthony Rizzo also had two hits and a stolen base. Scott Maine picked up the save.
On Friday, Casey Coleman gave up four runs on five hits over five innings in Iowa’s 4-3 loss to Round Rock. Rizzo had two hits for the second straight game.
Nick Struck struck out 10 and gave up one run on four hits over six innings as Tennessee beat Chattanooga, 4-1, on Thursday. Logan Watkins and Justin Bour each had three hits, and Bour homered, a solo shot in the eighth.
On Friday, Michael Burgess hit a solo homer in the sixth in Tennessee’s 1-0 victory over Chattanooga. Trey McNutt started but did not get a decision, giving up two hits over 3 2/3 innings. Jeff Antigua picked up the win in relief. The Smokies bullpen has thrown 8 1/3 scoreless innings in two games.
Rubi Silva had three hits in Daytona’s 11-4 loss to Brevard County on Thursday. Daytona pitchers walked seven. On Friday, Eric Jokisch served up two runs on four hits over six innings in Daytona’s 6-2 win over Brevard County. He struck out five. Arismendy Alcantara had three hits, including a solo homer, and four RBIs. He hit a three-run homer in the eighth. Silva had three hits and one RBI. Tony Zych picked up the save.
Michael Jensen threw five scoreless innings in Peoria’s 5-2 win Thursday over Beloit. Kyler Burke, an outfielder converting to pitcher, picked up a hold with a shutout seventh and Jeffrey Lorick threw two scoreless innings for the save.
On Friday, Peoria lost, 6-1, to Beloit. P.J. Francescon gave up one run on two hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine. Willengton Cruz took the loss in relief.
