5/6 Minor League options

Travis Wood was expected to be optioned back to Triple-A Iowa after Sunday’s start because Matt Garza will take his turn Friday in Milwaukee. With Blake DeWitt gone, the Cubs are most likely considering adding another infielder to the roster. Two options at Triple-A Iowa are Luis Valbuena and Adrian Cardenas. Valbuena was batting .304 in 22 games with two doubles, 12 walks and 24 strikeouts. He’s primarily played shortstop for the Iowa Cubs. He was claimed off waivers April 4. Cardenas was claimed off waivers from the Athletics, and batting .326 in 25 games with seven doubles, three triples and two homers. He’s played primarily second base. What’s impressive about Cardenas is he has struck out five times and drawn 10 walks. Both are left-handed hitters.
